Norman Jerome Standish, Maa aru cagishda reesh (Going to a better place), started his journey to the spirit world on August 21, 2023. He was born to LeRoy Sr. and Caroline (Driver) Standish. He was raised in Mandaree by his mom, Maxine Buffalo. He attended school in Mandaree and graduated in 1991 from Mandaree High School.
Norman was an avid Tennessee Titans, Boston Red Sox, Oregon Football, and Nascar fan. He enjoyed watching all types of sports and of course the Sasquatch shows on TV. He also enjoyed the outdoors. He loved fishing and playing golf. In his younger years, he liked to run with his mother, Maxine, early in the morning. He also enjoyed going to local pow-wows to dance men’s traditional.
Everyone knew Norman loved being a father. He loved each of his children and grandchildren. He took his job of being a big brother very serious. He would always worry about all his younger brothers and sisters. He enjoyed spending time out at the Living Water Family Worship Center. His faith was a very important part of his life, he always carried a bible with him. He remained close throughout the years with the Bearstail family. He enjoyed going to pow-wows and watching softball. He had a very close unique bond with all who loved him. He was always so respectful and willing to help others. He spoiled his nephews, Collin and Coleton, and all his grandchildren, they were very important to him.
In 1994, he attended the Trapper Creek Job Corp in Montana, where he met Karen. They were married on July 22, 1995, and moved to Manitoba, Canada. Out of this union, they had four children: Justice, Lishonta, Nashon, Dela-Royce. They lived in Grand Forks for a few years and later returned to Mandaree in 2001. Norman and Karen, remarried July 22, 2017, at the Black Bear building.
Norman served the people of the MHA Nation as a corrections officer, security officer, maintenance worker, and helped build the new Four Bears Bridge. In his later years, he started a construction business to remodel and build new additions to homes for many people throughout Ft. Berthold. He was proud to be a small business owner and enjoyed helping people.
In 2004, he met Jade and later married in 2008. Out of this union, their son Jahden was born. Together they raised Kalee and Elyza. He raised them as his own from day one. He loved them dearly.
He is survived by his children; Justice, Lishonta, Nashon, Dela-Royce, Jahden (Kenzlee), Elyza (Devin) and Kalee (Jesse). His mother, Maxine Buffalo. His brothers; Alvin, Galvin, Thornton, Ryan, Sheldon, Myron, Byron. His Sisters; Cheryl, Candace, Ruth (Brian), Glory (Gordon), Eva, Linda, April, Sheila. His grandchildren; Aubrey, Tyrese, Malachi, Colten, Paisley, Devyn. Numerous nieces and nephews, he loved you all.
He is preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy Sr. and Caroline Standish, brothers; Leonard, Martin, LeRoy “JR”, Robert “Bob”. Sisters; Rose, Barbara, Jodi, Kristina, Tisa.
