The loving and respected James Carl DuBois Sr. passed away on February 14, 2025, to join his ancestors.

James DuBois was born November 9th, 1962, in Watford City, North Dakota. James grew up in Mandaree, North Dakota. He is a member of the Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara nations and a Waterbuster clan member. He was also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. James attended Mandaree High School and Pocatello High School where he ran for the Pocatello Cross Country team in Idaho. He had a love for sports and attended the local Cross Country meets supporting the local runners and athletes. He also enjoyed watching Basketball, Football, and UFC. As a teenager and young adult, he loved fishing with his mother and siblings. Moreover, James loved reading books, crafting, and sketching in his time. He enjoyed listening to rock music like AC/DC and Metallica.

James was an avid gardener and put great thought and care into our Mother Earth, fondly working with trees as a Forester and handling numerous duties in Mandan, North Dakota, for ten years. James is a loving father who had an immense love for his children, often taking them for nature walks when they lived in Idaho. He placed great importance on his Native American spirituality. James enjoyed visiting the sweat lodge to pray; he sun danced with his siblings in Green Grass, South Dakota. James regularly attended the summer ceremony, harvesting sage to clean between rounds and drinking coffee while visiting his relatives.

James welcomed his first grandchild, Penelope Young Bird, in 2024, a baby girl he adored and was very proud of. James DuBois Sr. had a kind and gentle nature, always helping where he could. James had many friends in the recovery community, providing words of encouragement to those around him. His years of life reflect resiliency, his love for his family, and the power of prayer and spirituality.

Our thoughts and prayers go to his siblings; Terrence RedFox, Debbie and Monte Joseph, Wilhemenia (Tiny) DuBois, Patrick DuBois; and special niece Martina Fox.

James DuBois is survived by his loving children Francis DuBois, James (Jimmy) DuBois Jr, and Gabriella (Pooz) DuBois; grandchild Penelope Young Bird and various grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

James will be met by his many ancestors: his mother Gabriella “Katie” (Young Bear) DuBois; his father, Norman DuBois Sr.; Brother, Norman (JD) DuBois Jr.; Brother Leland Bears Heart DuBois and Sister Dorothy DuBois.
