Wayne Robert McNaboe was born to Leo B. and Rose (Ederer) McNaboe on September 6, 1945 in Huron, South Dakota. Wayne died unexpectedly on October 16th, 2022 after an exciting and fulfilling moose hunt.

Wayne was raised in Iroquois, SD. He graduated with a Bachelors degree in Education from Dakota State College and a Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling from SD State University. Wayne was an educator/counselor in Wessington SD and Poplar, MT before settling in Williston where he was a counselor for many years. Wayne enjoyed the students but he really loved hunting with his sons and following his grandchildren’s activities.

Wayne established Mc’s Digging and was the busy owner operator. He always claimed to be “just a ditch digger”.

Wayne is survived by his son, Tim of Rogers, MN and children, Ben, Elliott, and Jake; son, Kale (April) of Rapid City, SD and daughters, Cloe, Abby, and Sophie and his former wife and friend, Sue. Survivors also include his brother, Don (Rena) of Garfield, Arkansas and children, Gina, Teri and Bret and his many friends in the Williston and surrounding communities.

The family appreciates the community’s love and support.

I played basketball in Iroquois with Wayne. He was the tall one in the center and Westerberg was also the tall one as forward. I was the last one on the bench in case the other two tall ones fouled out. They never did. Wayne went to Class B state championship at Sioux Falls. He was so dependable that I was not invited. He provided good fun for the rest of us red shirts at practice. I never measured up to him, He was a senior and I was a freshman. I'm sorry to hear about his passing.

To Wayne’s family,
So sorry to hear of Macs passing. We both had Mr M as a counselor at WHS. But he and Pedar became good friends many years ago helping each other with projects. We enjoyed many gatherings at his shop over the years with all his friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.

As former students of Mr. McNaboe at WHS, Dale and I are saddened to hear about his passing. I have fond memories remembering the high school days and what fun Mr. McNaboe was with entertaining the classes with a game of basketball against the other teachers. He touched so many lives and the world is a better place for it!
May his loved ones find strength during these difficult times.

I have been blessed with Mac’s friendship for 20+ years. He was the most caring, helpful, understanding and kindness man I have ever known. I treasure my times when I would make my yearly trips back to ND and spend times with him and our friends. I will miss him forever. My heart goes out to his family for their huge loss. God Bless you Wayne !!!
When I was in highschool my parents both passed away and Wayne was my counselor, he put me into an apartment and helped me manage my money and kept me in school to finish high school and get my diploma !!!
